Unconditional Love

Just about everyone in the world has a pet of some kind, reptiles to hamsters, large and very small.    I have been raised around dogs my whole life, my parents came from farms where dogs were used.    My mom has told the story of her dad sitting down to eat breakfast and his trusty border collie comes up and sits beside him looking at him.   My grandpa told her to go round up the cows, by the time he was done with breakfast the cows were waiting for him.       My older brother did a science project for school using bob white and quail eggs, he put them in an incubator and reported the whole hatching cycle, then we had all the quails and bob whites around the house.   We lived in the country and my dad released them back at the end of lot where there was a small woods.    We could hear them every day back there talking.    I think the biggest dog we ever had was a St. Bernard my brothers bought together.   She was 6 months old and took up are whole family room floor, she was big and my mom was so afraid that she would hurt me because I was still pretty little.    She grew to around 120lbs (give or take) and was the sweetest dog and she lived to be 10 yrs old which is pretty good for a dog her size.    People love who and what they love, that's just what is in their heart.

We even stopped to get a snapping turtle off the road by our house, it had wondered out of the pond by the road and there he was right in the middle.    Let me tell you that wasn't a very easy task to get him off the road, but we did.

Our dogs are very spoiled, they very rarely sleep on the floor, either in a chair, couch or our bed.    They do have a dog bed which once in a while you can find a cat and dog both sleeping on it.    Our male got kidney stones a few years back, he never had them before, actually we've never had a dog that had them, and we put him on a special diet for a few months till he was better.     We tried to figure out what caused it.    We narrowed it down to the dog biscuits my husband kept in his desk drawer for him.   He wouldn't eat his dog food so he would give him a handful and he ate too many of them and it caused his stones.     We stopped giving them store bought treats and I started making them for them.  Our dogs eat fresh vegetables and peanut butter so I just put them in a dog treat and they are happy.    Here are a few pictures of what I make for them.    If you have never tried them, you really should.     We freeze the droolscotti and give it to them hard and they eat it like a rawhide.    I make my treats soft but if you bake them longer they will get hard.   If they don't want to eat their dog food we break a treat over the top and they clean their bowls.    You have to keep them in a refrigerator or freezer, being made with no additives or preservatives, they don't have a long shelf  life.   Three weeks in the refrigerator and three to six in the freezer.
