Southern Sour Cream Cookies

I found this recipe in an old cookbook, if you don't like sour cream you should still need to try them.   They are a very moist cookie with a taste similar to snicker doodles.    They do last a while as long as you store them in an air tight container.

1/3 cup shortening
2/3 cup granulated sugar
1 egg, well beaten
1/4 tsp baking soda
1 2/3 cup sifted cake flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup light sour cream
1/2 chopped nuts (optional)
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1 TBSP granulated sugar

(Even the recipe itself calls for using a spoon, I used my mixer)
Work the shortening with a spoon until fluffy and creamy.   Gradually add 2/3 cup sugar while continuing to work with a spoon until light.   Add the egg and mix well.    Sift soda, flour, baking powder and salt together, and add alternately with the sour cream.   Add the chopped nut and drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased or oiled cookie sheet.  press each cookie somewhat flat with bottom of wet glass dipped in granulated sugar.   Sprinkle tops of cookies with the cinnamon and the 1 TBSP sugar mixed together.   Bake in a moderately hot oven of 400 for 10-12 minutes.

Makes 3 dozen
